This statement explains how Thomas Charles Facilities & Maintenance Ltd approaches e-waste collections where equipment may contain data or business-sensitive information.
It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, Website Privacy & Cookies Policy and Data Security & Retention statement.
Our Approach
Where an e-waste collection may include equipment capable of storing data, TCFM aims to handle items carefully, agree the suitable route with the client and support responsible disposal arrangements.
Client Responsibility
Clients should identify any equipment that may contain personal, confidential or business-sensitive information before collection.
Where data-bearing equipment is included, the handling expectations should be discussed and agreed before the collection takes place.
Data-Bearing Equipment
Data-bearing equipment may include items such as:
-
computers;
-
laptops;
-
servers;
-
tablets;
-
mobile phones;

hard drives;
-
USB drives;
-
storage devices;
-
printers;
-
photocopiers;
-
other electrical or electronic items capable of storing information.
Collection and Handling
Where data-bearing equipment is involved, TCFM will review the collection requirements and agree the appropriate handling route with the client.
This may include segregation, collection records and supporting information where required by the agreed service.
Records and Documentation
Where applicable, TCFM may retain collection information, contact details, site details and service records for operational, legal, environmental, accounting or compliance purposes.
Records will be handled in line with TCFM’s Privacy Policy and Data Security & Retention statement.
Limitations
Clients should not assume that data destruction, secure erasure, certification, specialist processing or data sanitisation is included unless this has been specifically agreed in writing as part of the service.
Where specialist data destruction, erasure or certification is required, this should be raised before the collection is arranged so the suitable route can be reviewed.
Data Protection
Personal information provided to arrange an e-waste collection will be handled in line with TCFM’s Privacy Policy and Data Security & Retention statement.
Information should only be provided where relevant to the enquiry, collection or agreed service.
